DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING SITES: (Service)

Invasive service: Botsford General Hospital has an active outpatient cardiac catheterization lab with approximately 800 cardiology procedures are performed each year. The cardiology fellow on the invasive service will participate in all of the cardiac catheterizations. In addition to this the invasive service includes the implantation of permanent pacemakers. Currently at Botsford General Hospital, there are approximately 200 permanent pacemakers implanted each year. Complex electrophysiology will be performed as an out rotation and as part of the invasive service at Botsford General Hospital. This will include the performance of biventricular pacemaker implantation as well as internal cardioverted defibrillators. The cardiology trainee will also participate in the performance of cardiac biopsies.

Noninvasive Service: The noninvasive cardiology service includes the reading of electrocardiograms and supervising exercise stress tests. The exercise stress tests include functional and non-functional stress echocardiograms as well as nuclear studies. This includes persantine cardiolite, stress cardiolite, stress echos and dobutamine stress echos.

Noninvasive service also includes transesophageal echocardiograms which are performed daily at Botsford General Hospital. The basics of nuclear cardiology is also taught at Botsford General Hospital but NRC licensing requires 200 hours of didactic time which will be obtained either at the tertiary care center of through independent course work by the cardiology fellow.
