| Graduate Medical Education| Resident Programs | Medical Students OBJECTIVES AND GOALS: There is a three year fellowship program (36 month) which is designed to coordinate the expertise of an osteopathic acute care hospital with the benefits of training in tertiary institutions. There is a significant emphasis on cardiovascular and osteopathic research. The program consists of two years at Botsford General Hospital and one year in outside tertiary rotations (Providence Medical Center, St. John's Medical Center, William Beaumont Medical Center.) The program is designed to teach clinical, invasive and noninvasive cardiology. The trainees are expected to develop expertise in left heart cardiac catheterization, right heart cartheterization, cardiac biopsies, intra-aortic balloon pump placement, permanent pacing and cardiac electrophysiology. In addition, there will be comprehensive training in noninvasive cardiology which will include cardiac EKG analysis, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, stress testing including stress echo and nuclear stress testing. Trainees will also develop expertise in specific management of the heart failure and have exposure to cardiac transplant patients. Noninvasive peripheral vascular testing is an outside option. The didactic educational portion of nuclear cardiology for NRC licensing will be taken as an outside rotation in a tertiary institution or may be pursed by the fellow on his own time. Rotations in nuclear cardiology are available as elective. Certification in nuclear cardiology will follow recommended standard guidelines. The option to become certified in peripheral vascular disease can be pursued as an elective. Added certification in noninvasive cardiology can be obtained through inhospital rotations.
