Graduate Medical Education - Resident Programs | Medical Students F. Podiatric surgery The resident will become competent to perform surgical procedures encompassing soft digital surgery, lesser metatarsal surgery, surgery of the first ray, midfoot surgery, tendon transfers and general rearfoot and ankle surgical procedures. The resident will perform both medical and podiatric history and physical examinations on the patient and review preoperative films, as well as special studies such as EKG's and chest X-rays. The resident will be trained in perioperative management of the podiatric surgical patient. G. General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Pediatric Orthopedics These rotations
will provide the resident with an appreciation H. Peripheral Vascular Disease This rotation will provide the resident with exposure to patients afflicted with peripheral vascular disease. The resident will be permitted to examine and evaluate these patients and discuss treatment plans with the vascular surgeon. The resident will be expected to provide input regarding the treatment of vascularly debilitated patients and be able to scrub in on bypasses, amputations, dissecting aneurysms and other vascular procedures. I. Podiatric Medicine/Community Podiatry/Biomechanics/Office Rotations The resident will be exposed to the clinical experience of podiatric patient care. The resident will have the opportunity to work up patients surgically, biomechanically, perform palliative care, diagnose and treat dermatologic conditions of the feet, work-up of podopediatric conditions, perform tapings, casting for orthotic devices, diagnose and treat various arthritic conditions, perform podiatric history and physical examination, write prescriptions for medications, orthotic devices, orthopedic shoes, and work-up sports related conditions. This will also include the Botsford Podiatry Clinic and private practitioner office rotations. The resident will also be involved in Diabetic Education and treatment of disenfranchised patients.
