Farmington Hills, Mich., January 22, 1999 — Although it’s true
that newborn infants never come with manuals, the topic of next month’s
Botsford’s New Parents Network presentation should provide a measure of
assurance to nervous parents-to-be and jolt of self-confidence to veterans.
The presentation, “The First Days Home, ” on Wednesday, February
3, will approach the paranoia that inflicts almost every new parent with
humor and old-fashioned common sense.
“We’re going to focus on what to expect, how to deal calmly with the
unexpected, and how to keep your sense of humor through it all,” said Judy
Beyersdorf, Health Development Network (HDN) program assistant. “It’s a great
relief to know everyone checks on the baby constantly to see if he or she is
breathing and most everyone has called their pediatrician within the first few
days in a panic about something that usually turns out to be minor. Every parent
needs to hear that they’re a lot more competent than they think.”
New Parents Network meets 12:30 - 2 p.m. at Botsford’s Health Development
Network (HDN), 39750 Grand River Ave., in Novi. There is a $5 donation.

Meeting the first Wednesday of each month, New Parents Network gives
moms an opportunity to network with peers, share concerns and obtain
information. Every month, the group features lively discussions and speakers
from a variety of health care professions. Sessions cover the gamut from normal
newborn behavior to how to get back into your pre-pregnancy shape.
Health Development Network is a department of Botsford
General Hospital offering health and wellness education programs to neighboring
