Graduate Medical Education - Resident Programs | Medical Students

CHARTS

Daily admitting notes, progress notes and consultations must be completed in a comprehensive manner, legible with proper spelling and grammar.

All patients admitted to the neurology service will require a complete admitting note by the resident responsible for that case.

All patients on a managed service will require a discharge summary, including short stay patients. Refer to the document below regarding discharge summaries. All discharge summaries are to be completed within seven days of the patient's discharge. Failure to comply will lead to sanctions at the discretion of the Program Director or assistants.

LENGHT OF CONTRACT

Although the training program is for three years, contracts are given on a year to year basis, pending approval for renewal by the program Director and his assistants.

VACATIONS

Two weeks of vacation plus one conference approved by Program Director.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Weekly neurology Grand Rounds at the DMC.
  2. Twice monthly Neurology Resident Journal Club with attending neurologist.
  3. Monthly Neurology Resident Club under the direction of Drs. Pawlak and Simpson.
  4. Yearly educational conference--stipend per Botsford, upon approval of Program Director.
  5. Review course--3rd year--upon approval of Program Director.
  6. Educational Conferences in conjunction with MSU-COM.

This document is meant to be an outline for the three year residency training program in neurology at Botsford General Hospital. It is not meant to be an all inclusive document, but is meant to give the neurology resident a clear idea of what is expected of him/her. Of utmost importance, is an open line of communication between the resident staff and attending staff in order to minimize confusion and to enhance the educational process and, of course, patient care. Additions and/or deletions to this document will be made as necessary.

DISCHARGE SUMMARY GUIDELINES
  1. Admit date, discharge date
  2. Admit diagnosis, discharge diagnosis
  3. Admitting presentation, including brief history and pertinent physical exam findings
  4. Hospital course
  5. Discharge and follow up instructions with copy to primary doctor and M.I.N.D. neurologist
