Program Description: Botsford General Hospital has long been recognized as one of the premier teaching institutions within the osteopathic profession. Over 190 dedicated volunteer teaching faculty, many with appointments to the clinical faculty of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, provide care to an extremely diverse patient population. Sixty-five thousand yearly Emergency Room visits and over 14,000 admissions expose 133 interns, residents and fellows to a wide range of pathology and extensive educational opportunities.

The overwhelming majority of our candidates enter the Medicine Track Internship, completing their General Internal Medicine training and becoming Board eligible in three years. At our institution, this track particularly emphasizes the skills to practice as a highly qualified "hospitalist" or, alternatively, to seek additional subspecialty training at Botsford or elsewhere. Our graduates also consistently report that, where their path has taken them into primary care, their training has served them in that capacity as well. Fellowships at Botsford following completion of training in Internal Medicine include Cardiology, Pulmonary - Critical Care, Gastroenterology, and Infectious Disease - each additionally extending the skills and experience of the trainee.
