Botsford Appoints New Head of Emergency Medicine

Farmington Hills, Mich., November 6, 2000 - The Board of Directors of Botsford General Hospital has named David P. Walters, D.O., as the new Medical Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine. He replaces Ronald Lagerveld, D.O., who retired recently.

As Director of the Emergency Department, Dr. Walters oversees a staff of fourteen physicians and nearly 120 other employees including nurses, technicians, and administrative and clerical staff. He will also be involved in planning the training for 15 medical residents who are completing residencies in Emergency Medicine. The Emergency Department at Botsford treated almost 57,000 patients in 1999. 

Dr. Walters has been on staff at Botsford since 1991 as an attending emergency physician. Previously, he had been attending emergency physician at McPherson Hospital.

Dr. Walters is a graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University, East Lansing. He completed his emergency medicine residency through Michigan State University Affiliated Hospitals in 1991.

Board-certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Walters is an assistant clinical professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University and a member of the Emergency Medicine Residency faculty at Botsford General Hospital. He holds the titles of Fellow in the American College of Emergency Medicine and Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine.

The Botsford Health Care Continuum is an integrated system of care which includes Botsford General Hospital, the Botsford Physician Network, Community Emergency Medical Service, the Botsford Continuing Care Corporation and the Botsford Center for Health Improvement.
